HOWARD KATZ Obituary

KATZ--Howard Carl. Howard Carl Katz, 86, of Carefree, AZ and Bridgehampton, NY, died unexpectedly on October 10, 2025. Howard was born March 24, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA, son of Dr. Samuel and Pauline Katz. He graduated from Michigan State University and went to New York to work for J. Aron & Company, which became part of Goldman Sachs, where he worked for almost 40 years as a General Partner. Howard was the former Chairman of the Coffee, Sugar and Cocoa Exchange. He served on the boards of Honor Health Foundation, Arizona Science Center, Child Mind Institute, Sandra Day O'Connor Institute, and was former chair of ASU Foundation President's Club. Howard is survived by his adoring wife of 28 years, Ellen, his daughters Betsey Katz (Amanda) and Sara Mercer (Doug), his grandchildren Zachary, Nicholas, J Henry, Ben, Grace, Hermione, and Portia, stepchildren Zibby Owens (Kyle) and Teddy Schwarzman (Ellen), and their children Owen, Phoebe, Sadie, Graham, Lucy, William and Mary. His beloved son, Adam, predeceased him. He loved them with all his heart, as he did his puppy, Murphy. Howard knew no strangers. He was a friend to all, and there was no one who didn't like him. Howard was a true patriot, having served in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant. He had great posture, was passionate about current events and sports, including his own golf game. Howard was a gentleman, a loving husband, a dedicated father and a doting grandfather. He will be missed by many.

A service will be held in Howard's honor at 2:00pm on Monday, October 20 at Temple Emanu-El, 1 E. 65th Street, New York, N.Y.
