HUGH SEIDMAN

SEIDMAN--Hugh. Born in Brooklyn in 1940, Hugh passed peacefully at home on November 9, 2023 after a long illness. He was a Yale Younger Poet, held degrees in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, and achieved a 4th degree black belt in Seido Karate at the age of 76. A critically acclaimed poet, Hugh published seven volumes of poetry that won several awards. He taught writing at Yale University, Columbia University, and the New School for Social Research. Hugh will be remembered by his friends and students as a quiet, gentle man who wrote deeply moving poems. He is survived by his wife, the painter Jayne Holsinger and cousin Ellen Pliskin.
