HYMAN ABADY Obituary

ABADY--Hyman. We lost someone very special last week. Hy Abady died at 76 years old after a short illness. Hy was a renaissance man. He became a published author, artist, and journalist after a stellar career as an award-winning copywriter at some of the most iconic advertising agencies of the '60s, '70s and '80s in New York City. A loyal friend, generous of spirit, with a quick mind and even quicker repartee. He knew the best places to eat and drink and shop. He collected watches, cool eyeglasses, and hundreds of adoring friends. He leaves behind his husband and partner of 39 years, David Pearson, as well as his adored family: brother, Issac Abady, sister Molly Cohn, sister Judy Sutton, and many nephews and nieces. A memorial will be held at: The Village Temple, 33 East 12th St., NYC on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to God's Love We Deliver or order a cocktail and toast to his memory. He'd like that.

I am probably one of Hymie's first friends, going back to the 4h grade at Magen David Yeshiva. I have lots of memories of us playing at his house on Bay Parkway, listening to early rock music, acting out skits and corny scenarios, playing cards and even Mah Jong, which he taught me using his mom's game. I recall many happy times we shared and being impressed by his drawing and artistic ability even at the early age. We lost touch after high school and our lives took very different paths. We met only once, briefly, at a restaurant in Manhattan across from his building. I was surprised and sorry to hear of his passing. He has a real spirit and joy de vivre.
