Betsy, Sam and Nora,
It was just days ago I found out that Ira passed. I am still in shock and have been walking around with a heavy heart. I have not stop weeping for this wonderful, wonderful man I called friend and you called husband and father. I first met Ira 26 years ago when I was working at McGraw Hill. With time and life happening the past few years, we just re-connected last August. We had such a wonderful conversation as if we never skipped a beat. I'm glad I was able to reflect and thank Ira for all of the wonderful things he has done for me over the years. He was one of the most generous people I ever met and had such a generous spirit. He had a unique way of letting you feel like the most special person in the world. His beautiful blue eyes especially lit up when he spoke about his children. He was so proud of both of his children.
Ira always loved with all his heart. He recently reached out after the hurricane to see how I was doing. He truly was the most kind person I ever met.
Richie, Mr. & Mrs. Bart and Holly, I am so very sorry for your loss. I am so grateful to know Ira and be a part of his life. I will miss him.

Betsy, Iam still in shock. On my arrival to this country from Trindiad in the early eighties, Ira was one of my first friends. Words simply cannot express what this continued friendship has meant to me. To say I will miss his continuous smile is an understatement. May God be with you and your family in this difficult time.
Love, Anne Marie Millien

As a print buyer for McGraw-Hill in the early 80's I had the privilege of doing business with Ira and AJ Bart. Ira was one of the kindest human beings I have ever met..and he was a good friend. My heart dropped when I heard of his passing. It is rare that you meet a person as genuine and as extraordinary as Ira...He was one of a kind. May God hold him in the hallow of his hand..My prayers go out to his family. Melissa Larkin (Himes)

I only knew Ira for 8 short years, during which time he was a business colleague, but more importantly, a true friend & inspiration. It was amazing to hear his stories about Sam & Nora, & it was clear to me how much he loved them. He lived his life with a passion & generosity that is extremely rare. His memory will live in our hearts forever. My sincere sympathy to the family.

I've been thinking of my childhood so many but very vivid years ago, which Ira was such a large part. His family and ours spent so many enjoyable and memorable years around the pool at his house. A year and a half ago, I ran into Ira in Westhampton when he "recognized" my voice. The smiling eyes and bear hug brought me back to our youth and Ira's quick wit, friendship and big brother protection of my sister and I. I am deeply sorry you are gone so young however i am certain your life was rich in the love of your family and friends. May your memory be a blessing to all the lives you touched along your way.

Ira, you were a friend and my "almost" family. It warms my heart remembering how you would continue to introduce me to people as your sister-in-law... even after all these years. I will never forget our private talks and most especially the laughs we shared. You will be missed by so many. My heart hurts for the Bart family as well as the extended AJ Bart & Sons family. You were a gem (understatement) and I will never forget your generosity, your humor and your spirit. I hope the sun is shining where you are and the Belvedere in chilled perfectly for you. With much love, your "sister-in-law" Joanne

I could not believe my eyes this morning when I saw this obit in the NY Times. My family has known the Bart family for nearly 40 years, when my dad worked for Al and later, his boys, first in Manhattan and later in Brooklyn.
To Al and Shirley, Betsy, Sam & Nora, Holly and Richie, and Steve B -- my deepest sympathy. Ira was a good man, not something you can say easily these days, and will be well remembered by his loving family and friends.
