It was a joy to know him and visiting him at his home in the Village was an eeng i will never forget.
He remained a warm and wonderful person and will always be an inspiration to retain and share that spirit which he did to very end.
A few years ago, Theo Bikel showed a bunch of us how to deal with mortality when he addressed a huge sold-out benefit concert at Carnegie Hall, for which , regardless of the sehe was the guest of honor. The concert was a benefit for kids in need, and also a celebration of his 85th birthdayll
"Ladies and Gemtlemen" he boomed out. "I am so grateful you all came here tonight. Because of my age, people come up and ask me, 'Teo are you o.k.?'
'Not to worry' I say to them "I never felt better. In the theater we never die. We just go on tour"
So until we join him, we send love to his family and all friends still here who loved him

I adored Irv. He was kind, generous of spirit, and very talented. One if the best experiences of my life was studying with him in Italy. I know he's got his mini notebook and writing notes right now.

My Buddy Irv, I can't believe it has been four years! As you well know, you have never been far from my thoughts. Your voice is always with me, with your humor, with your guidance, with talks of politics..... Paul Muni and Henry Fonda. Miss you always big brother. Hoping your journey, wherever you are today, has been fascinating. Love, Doug

Dear Vimi and Family, you are approaching the first year without your beloved Irvin. It is always the hardest ~ first missed special events. However, the many loving memories you have of him will continue to comfort you and will sustain you forever (Song of Solomon 8:6) ~ Linda, Queens, NY

Irv was my screenwriting teacher at NYU in the early 1990s. Later, I studied with him privately. I had lost touch with him in recent years but was planning on paying him a visit in NYC. I am so very sad that I never got the chance to do this. His deeply-rooted passion to character development and storytelling was and will always be a deep inspiration to me. I cherish my memories of walking around Greenwich Village with him. They don't make them like Irv anymore. I am very lucky to have spent some time with this great man, writer and teacher. Love and Peace, Evan Footman Kreeger.

I just found this almost a year late, My grandfather and grandmother produced Irv's first play, "A Dream Out Of Time", this was the catalyst for a career in theatre for me. I spoke to Irv a few times and met him as a child but sadly did not know him, bless his work and bless his passing. I grew up looking at the set for dream and have always wanted to re-mount the show

I just saw this very sad news tonight on the Internet 10/22/15 from searching for the review of Irv's Course I wrote on Amazon to refer to some film students I just met. I am deeply saddened by this news. I took his absolutely wonderful Course in 2013 with his Personal Mentoring over the phone. He went out of his way to give me extra attention. I am so very blessed to have found him. A marvelous man. Tears are in my eyes. My prayers and condolences to his wife Vimi Bauer. They made quite The Pair and I enjoyed every interaction with them by phone that I had. Any success I ever have on my path in film must surely be laid at his feet. It was a Great Honor to have met this man. Rest in Peace Kind Sir.

I am not religious by definition but I find my own kind of spiritualality in the the good things that come my my way. Mr. Bauer was one of those sweet little happenings that befell me and I hope in some strange way there's another Irv out there to carry on. We would be all the better for it. Stop and shut everything out for just a moment and the you that is you come forward; you will be amazed. Sleep well dear Sir, I missed the chance to tell you how profound an effect you had on me. My apologies to you and to Vimi.

Dear Vimi
Doug Yeager just told me the sad news but i feel so blessed to have spent such a great night with both of you recently and to be able to share all the warmth and wit that you both exude.
Irv was just as brilliant and hamishe in real life as he was in the body of work that he left us.
I hope Doug and i can visit you again or take you out and have a big toast and L'chaim for Irv, for his legacy and to thank him from this side for all that he gave the world.
Blessings and know that we are thinking of YOU and here for whatever we can do

I am privileged to have experienced a fortnight in Spoleto with Irv and Vimi, to have learned so much from him, and to be so entertained by stories from his life and work. He believed passionately in what he taught and was an inspiration. I carry him with me, and send much love to Vimi.

So lucky was I to be made known to Irv and of course Vimi. At a threashhold in my life where I was exiting professional endeavors and pursuing writing for my own enjoyment, Irv immediately asuaged my anxiety of whether or not I could do such an outlandish thing but do it right. He did not hold back when it was appropriate but he did so with true care and coaching so the end result was we all learned, grew our talents and felt pretty good about ourselves by the end of the intensives. The love that he and Vimi shared was infectious. You could not help but enjoy yourself while in their company and savoring the day and evening when it was lights out. I will miss sitting across a cafe table on the piazza jotting down notes in my required
spiral bound note pad while we worked out the kinks of that days work. A cocktail, wise set eyes and the iconic, unforgetable, white straw hat with the black band. I hope to do well by you one of these days Sir. Vimi, my heart goes out to you.

People come into your life for a reason. I was blessed to know Irv Bauer. Irv was an incredible writer and caring person. So sad to learn of his death.
I remember my friend Ruby asking me if I wanted to take a screenwriting class. At first I hesitated, but finally said "yes." Irv made screenwriting fun from his writing exercises to his wildly entertaining stories. With his help characters in my head moved from my mind to paper. Thank you Irv!
Vimi, my condolences!

Dear Vimi,
I am so sad. I will always have such wonderful memories of all the classes, the workshop in Spoleto, and the times just the three of us talked in your living room. Irv was such a warm person, and a fellow Yankee fan! I will always remember his encouragement to keep writing. Love and hugs, Jeanette

I was lucky enough to be a student of Irv's. He was my screenwriting teacher at New York University. He became a mentor and a friend. What a talented, smart, friendly person. I learned so much from him. Irv saw that I wasn't just a box of unassembled parts (something I surely couldn't see), and helped me figure out how to put all the pieces together.
I will always have fond memories of times spent with Irv and Vimi. Listening to stories (I could have listened for hours), enjoying a Guiness, grabbing a hamburger at a diner, walking in the Village, talking craft, life and more.
Irv, I will miss you. I wish we could have one more drink together.
Vimi, all my love and condolences to you.
Your friend,
Steve Behling

Irv was the sweetest, most thoughtful and generous, enjoyable conversationalist, and fascinatingly creative and brilliant man we will ever have the privilege to know in our lives. No better brother or friend a man could have than Irv. All of us who knew him and loved him, feel an immense emptiness at this time, but will be comforted by knowing that we will always keep a piece of him in our hearts and minds. I know that my conversations with him will go on an on forever. His towering presence will be missed always. Love to Vimi, who has been the most loving and caring wife, his devoted partner, and the best friend he could have ever found in his life.
