James Chadderdon Obituary

1942 - 2011
James Robert "Jim" Chadderdon, 68, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly Monday, October 31, 2011. Jim was one of the most respected bankruptcy lawyers in the state of Colorado. His friends and colleagues said, "He was the attorney we all turned to for pragmatic and insightful guidance. He was always a willing listener and teacher."

A native Texan, Jim found peace in the Colorado mountains and solace in the love of his beloved wife of 30 years, Robin. He was a wonderful husband, and a great father. Jim was a deeply spiritual person. He was a profoundly kind person. Jim was the foundation of his family, and the calm in every storm. He loved deeply and was deeply loved.

Jim enjoyed drinking coffee and reading the New York Times, while sitting on his front porch on August mornings. He loved watching the weather change over Pikes Peak. He made a mean margarita and loved movies and music, especially Star Wars, the Eagles and Dido. Jim had a great sense of humor, and brought laughter to his family and friends. He was an avid sports fan. He spent many Sundays eating popcorn and cheering for the Denver Broncos.

Jim had highly respected and successful careers in both law and business. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston Law School. He was on the Board of Editors for the Law Review and clerked for US District Judge Woodrow Seals in Houston, Texas. He then became a corporate attorney with the prestigious Houston law firm of Fulbright and Jaworski and later became General Counsel and Treasurer for AZ International Tool Company, also in Houston.

In 1977, Jim became the Managing General Partner for Walnut Partners, Ltd. In Boulder, Colorado. In 1986 he moved to Colorado Springs and started his own bankruptcy law practice. He was a founding member and past President of the Ben Wendelken Inn of Court, a professional organization of judges and attorneys promoting professionalism and ethics in legal practice.

By seeking grace and harmony in all things, Jim exuded energy and life. His impact cannot be measured and he will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jim is survived by his wife, Robin, and his daughters Elizabeth Chadderdon, Katherine Chadderdon-Harte, Susan Chadderdon, and Alexandra Chadderdon. and his two grandchildren, Forrest Chadderdon-Harte and River Chadderdon-Harte. He is also survived by his sister, Marty Burnett of Austin, Texas,

Jim's spirit will be with us always.

A memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 5, 2011, at 1pm, at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, District Court Room One, 215 South Tejon St, Colorado Springs, 80903. A reception immediately following the service will be held at the home of Hank and Trudy Bargine, 14 East Caramillo St., Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80907.

Robin - I am so sorry to hear about Jim. As you know I worked for him and always enjoyed his stories. You are right about how he always had a way of calming situations down and he was always there for my and my whole family for guidance. Phil and I just saw him not too long ago and visited for quite a lengthy time. He will be greatly missed as a person and as an attorney. Margaret and Phil Kleinsmith

David and I are deeply saddened by Jim's passing. The legal community has lost more than just a passionate advocate and scholar; we have lost a kind, tender-hearted gentleman who touched the lives of his clients, colleagues, family, and friends in quiet and profound ways.

May the family find comfort in the peace that surpasses all understanding, and know that we are holding you ever so close to our hearts.

I've only known Jim for a year and a half, but he was the kind of person that always greeted you with a handshake and a smile. I saw Jim the day of his passing and I will never forget the few minutes we shared that morning. R.I.P. Jim, you will be greatly missed.

Dear Chadderdon Family,

We were greatly saddened by the news of Jim's passing. It is rare to see someone as curteous and professional as Jim in our interactions. While we didn't always agree on the issues, we could always discuss our differnces civilly and with mutual respect. He was a true gentleman and I will miss seeing him on my dockets.
