I was out of the country for the past two weeks and just returned to hear this sad news. Dr. Finkelstein was an inspiration to us here at the VA Central IRB as one of our first Co-Chairs. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Dear Finkelstein Family,
We are blessed to have been able to see you at Donna and Ed's party a few months ago. It doesn't seem possible that you have lost Jim so quickly. Donna, Ed, Brian and Hannah are like family to us. We send you all our love and peace.

Jim's charm and wit made our visits to the cape so memorable. I can't tell you how many times my sons, who never knew their grandfathers, spoke of Jim as if he were family. He had that way about him. He will be missed, but in our thoughts and words forever.

I am also saddened to hear of Dr. Finkelstein's passing. I met him when i started working at the VA in the 1970s. I always appreciated his intellect, humor, skills in medicine and other areas. He made an indelible impact on the VA and many others, including me. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers during this time.

Our thoughts are with you though we are half a world away and unable to see you. We will always remember the warm, welcoming, charming man, who was the American father figure for my daughter.
