JAY SHAPIRO Obituary

SHAPIRO--Jay A. After a valiant struggle with Alzheimer's, Jay A. Shapiro lost his battle on January 24, 2022. He was 94. It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that his family remembers the man whose smile and laughter will be sorely missed. Born on April 10, 1927 to Miriam (Anhalt) and Joseph L. Shapiro, Jay had heart and courage. He was fun, loved to travel, and enjoyed classical music. A man of genuine kindness and a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Jay, a graduate of NYU, was dedicated to his family's insurance business and transformed it into a risk management specialty firm, The JLS Group, Inc. Jay was devoted to the love of his life, Sharon, his wife of 46 years. He took enormous pride in his three children: Andrea Shapiro (the Rev. James Gordon), Dr. Robert E. Shapiro (Sharon Morrison), and Kathryn Kapell (Joshua Kapell). His three granddaughters, Cole, Lauren and Willa, and his niece and nephews, Karen, Michael, Jonathan, Jody and John all remember him with love, respect and admiration. Jay's strength and determination in battling this illness was a testament to his fight for precious time with Sharon, his adored wife. The family appreciates donations being made to Caring Kind: (caringkindnyc.org).
