BEREN--Joan Schiff.

UJA-Federation of New York mourns the passing of Joan Beren. Joan's compassion and dedication helped to improve countless lives around the world. She leaves behind a loving family that will carry on a tradition of exceptional Jewish philanthropy. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Joan's children, Amy (Bob) Bressman, Adam (Ellen) Beren, Nancy Beren (Larry Jefferson), and Julie (Marc) Platt; her 14 grandchildren and five great- grandchildren; and the entire family. I’m sorry I’m very late here but I was just thinking about Joan and found this. I grew up with Julie, and Joan was my hero of mothers among friends. I remember a perfect pink Chanel suit she wore. I remember her forcefully objecting to the avalanche of Christian based music foisted upon the music groups (I remember thinking “you go Joan”.). A force of nature who did so much for her communities. May her memory be a blessing

Who can forget the graciousness Mrs. Beren gave us BBGers when we'd meet in her home years ago? My last memory of Joan was about ten years ago. I was visiting my father and went with him to a seniors event. Besides greeting me with warmth she thanked me for taking care of our Homeland. May you be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

my trips to Scottsdale will never be the same..the golf, the films, the dinners, the shopping and the "sweet 16"..she even got me in a betting pool to interest me in the playoffs...much love to her family, many of which i had the privilege of meeting...my heart aches for all of us

Joan Beren was part of the foundation for my life. She showed me how to be a good friend and a caring person by being that always eapecially to my mother but to my entire family. This is a big loss that words cannot do justice to. She will be deeply missed. Julie, the kids & I send our deepest condolences.

Joan was larger than life to our family and seemingly so many others. My deepest condolences to her entire family. I was honored to work with Joan on many matters relating to Wichita State University, particularly at the Edwin A. Ulrich Museum of Art. She was a dedicated volunteer and an outstanding citizen of our community (who loved the Shockers). I feel very privileged to call her my friend.
