JOANNE METCALF Obituary
Faith Mallis Lampley, lost a fierce and fast battle with lung cancer on December 18, 2016. She was an extraordinary mother, wife, sister, grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend to more than can be counted. She lived a life of passion, filled with laughter, love, dancing, music, art and design. Nicknamed "stacks" from her first job as a DJ in Honolulu, she later became an incredible artist, and designer of clothes and interiors for her homes in Palm Beach, FL, London, and New York City. She is an irreplaceable force of energy, beauty, warmth and love. Her laugh was infectious, and her beauty and sensuality turned heads wherever she was. She leaves behind her husband, Justin Metcalf, daughters Brooke Lampley Papagiannis, Victoria Lampley Berens and Alexandra Metcalf; grandsons Theo and Milo Papagiannis; sisters Stephanie Mallis McKinnell and Fern Mallis; sons-in-law Chris Papagiannis and Michael Berens; brother-in-law Michael McKinnell, and her dogs Polly and Zola. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to support clinical research by Dr. Jamie Chaft at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

What a shock to find out Joanne passed almost a month ago. Although a few years younger, I knew Joanne, and Stephanie and Fern, as a little girl, and I remember all of them as teenagers. My mother, Sylvia, grew up with Vera, their mother, in Brooklyn, N.Y. When Vera met Mack ("Muttie"), their father, they all became the best of friends. Last time I saw Joanne it was after her mother died, and we went to sit shiva at Vera and Mack's home in Mill Basin. It was also the last time we saw Mack. When I was 16 years old, Mack read all the poetry I had been writing while he was supposed to be visiting with my parents. He was the first person to tell me that I had a genuine gift for writing poetry. I had hoped to catch up with Joanne in Florida as I now spend a good part of the winter in Delray Beach, and Joanne I had heard was in nearby Wellington. Alas, it will not be. Rest In Peace, lovely and sweet Joanne. My condolences to all her family including Justin, her husband.
