JOEL MOROWITZ

MOROWITZ--Joel. Died October 6, 2022 at age 55. Joel was a luminous soul, a brilliant wit, a quietly fierce intellect, an impeccable connoisseur of art and music, and the world's most sensitive detector of BS. He loved beauty, kindness, children, music, Jane Austen, Graham Greene, a great meal, a great movie, a great nap. His religion was doing right by others. As co-founder of SpinART Records, Joel loved discovering and nurturing bands, and later, as founder of Ecstatic Electric, supporting their work in the studio as a collector and supplier of vintage microphones, whose tones and inner workings fascinated him. A true pinball wizard, he was the proud holder of a long-standing high score at the late, lamented CBGB. There is a lot of solace in knowing he had accomplished so much, especially in the last months. He was thrilled to walk 100 miles of the Camino de Santiago and cross the Pyrenees on foot in September. He was humbled and exalted by the people he met on the Camino - the stories, the struggles, the joys. He survived by David, his beloved father; Nancy, his devoted sister; and many friends. He was predeceased by Barbara, his adored and adoring mother. A service will be held on Wednesday, October 12 at 11am at Washington Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb Street, NW, Washington, D.C.
