JOEL SHERLOCK

SHERLOCK--Joel E., M.D. Joel E. Sherlock, M.D., of Northport, NY passed away on September 14, 2025, 87 years of age. Beloved husband of Kathleen Sherlock-Hoegl and the late Roberta Sherlock. Loving father of Kathy (Jacob) Gooze, Maureen (Scott) Molin and Michael Sherlock. Cherished grandfather of Lindsay Molin, Emily Molin, Zachary Molin, Jake (Noel) Wisnicki, and Julia (Kyle) Royer. Devoted great-grandfather of David Joel Wisnicki. Dear brother of Geraldine (Michael) Russo. Joel was a proud graduate of Regis High School, St. Peter's University, and Cornell University. His specialty was nephrology, becoming a leader in dialysis on Long Island. He was a professor of medicine at Stony Brook and then their director of kidney transplants. He was instrumental in establishing the organ donor ID on New York State drivers' licenses. He retired to care for his wife and after her death pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Stony Brook, specializing in guitar. He had a beautiful bass voice, participating in local choirs and was a long time member of the Northport Yacht Club. Joel was respected by his colleagues and loved by his patients. A generous and humble man, he was a friend to all who knew him. Visiting 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Nolan Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Ave., Northport, NY. Funeral Mass 10:30am on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 130 Main St., Northport, NY. Interment, with U.S. Navy Military Honors, to follow at the Northport Rural Cemetery, Northport.
