JOEL SIEGAL Obituary
SIEGAL--Joel D. passed away peacefully in New York, NY on August 15, 2025, at the age of 88 surrounded by his family. He was the son of Samuel and Florence Siegal of North Plainfield, NJ, loving father and father-in-law of Sam and Randi Siegal, and Evan and Carolyn Siegal, cherished grandfather of Brett, Brooke, Riley and Isla, brother to Elliot Siegal, and uncle to Lauren Shannon. Joel graduated from the University of Pennsylvania ('58) with a bachelor's degree in Political Science, Yale Law School ('61) with a Juris Doctor, and Stockholm University with a master's degree in International Relations. Joel was a prominent and respected attorney for more than six decades. He was a law clerk to the Honorable Arthur S. Lane, United States District Court of New Jersey, and thereafter the Honorable Philip Forman, United States Court of Appeals. Since 1970, Joel was a partner at Hellring Lindeman Goldstein & Siegal, where he specialized in complex litigation in the federal and state courts and significant family law matters. Amongst his many distinctions, Joel was President of The Association of the Federal Bar of the State of New Jersey, Commissioner of National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, and Lifetime Fellow of the American Bar Foundation in recognition of professional attainment, distinguished service and commitment. For all of his professional accomplishments, Joel's greatest achievements in life were as a father and grandfather. As he once said in a newspaper article, "I tell people that I must be out of court in time for a game...and you just walk out." His family was his first priority and greatest joy. Joel was a devoted and impassioned coach, spectator, proofreader, companion, advocate, mentor, and friend to his sons and grandchildren. He was a diehard fan of the Yankees, Jets and Nets, and much to the dismay of his family also rooted for the Knicks. Joel loved hot dogs, ice cream, On the Waterfront, Johnny Cash, politics, boxing, his doormen, and the waiters at Viand. Joel lived life on his terms, made his mark, and will be dearly missed by the many people he touched. Funeral Service Wednesday, 11:30am, at Temple Emanu-El, 1 East 65 Street, New York, NY.
