I still proudly tell people John was the most influential person in my professional career. Always encouraged me to take the most difficult assignments, told me to trust my instincts in making tough decisions (quickly vs. slowly!), and, he was always accessible when I needed advice and support. RIP.

Ellen, I did not hear about John's passing until today. We still have the "Pony Express" messaging in the West. John was one of my true hero's. He reminded us all of the "Angels" in our lives and made our years at Wang fun and worthwhile. He was loved and respected by us all. Our Achiever Trips were the best with him in charge. He was a great golf partner. I will miss him. Deepest condolences to you and your family.

John we ALL knew you! So many times throughout the years I made reference to something you said or did, the lessons you taught us, we spread your business sense to every place we worked. We also learned the human factor and how we have an obligation to ourselves and each other to do good. I don't know who else to get a Wangwriter to sell to customers. You are highly praised and will sadly missed.

I was blessed to have worked at WANG headquarters during the exciting growth years of John's leadership. He was so inspirational to us all and leaves a great legacy !
Later I worked at Computer Consoles in Irvine, CA where John was CEO.During this time, I had some individual conversation with him and learned more about his passion for life and business. He had a calming presence about him that added to his playful humor.

I worked at Wang during the great years under John's leadership and he was such an inspiration. At an ISWU and Partner conference John arrived late for his keynote speech. As I nervously waited for him at the door he finally arrived. When I greeted John I asked if he was ready for his speech. He reached into his suit pocket and pulled out a business card and said his notes were on it. I walked him into the ballroom and he took the stage. As he was speaking I looked at the card and it was empty, no notes. At then end of his speech the crowd gave him a standing ovation. What a great leader. Condolences to the Cunningham family.

John Cunningham was a great man with a great sense of humor. A great leader. We were proud to work for him at Wang. He connected me to the Chicago office in 1980 after I had been laid off from three jobs that year. It was a bad economy at the time. I was hired and later transferred to the headquarters in Lowell. Those ten years at Wang were fantastic. I had great a great career there and loved being in the forefront of technology. It is very sad to see your life get cut short. You have a great legacy.
