JOHN FLAHERTY Obituary

FLAHERTY--John Edward, Jr. John Edward "Jay" Flaherty Jr., age 79, an attorney, former Philadelphia Deputy Mayor, Vietnam veteran and master gardener, died February 9; his wife, Nanie, of 55 years, and his three beloved children, Eugenie, Doyle and Kate, were with him. He died of cancer associated with the defoliant Agent Orange, to which he was exposed during his tour in Vietnam from September 1969 to August 70. He was a man of integrity, fortitude, intelligence, empathy and kindness, a man who truly cared about and listened to others. In Jay's honor, please consider a donation to the Veterans' Multiservice Center (213-217 North 4th Street, Phila., PA 19106) or to the Chestnut Hill Garden District Fund (10 E. May God give you strength and comfort during this difficult time. I am so sorry for your loss. Sending condolences and prayers to his family and friends.
