JOHN HUGGINS Obituary

HUGGINS--John M., of Houston, TX, died on October 5, 2011, after a long illness. He was 71. John spent his entire 40 year legal career with Baker Botts LLP, and was the partner-in-charge of the firm's New York office from 1994-2003. John is survived by his wife Kathleen, his daughters Joyce Marilyn Huggins Goettee of Houston, and Jennifer Huggins Modesett of Austin, TX, and five grandchildren. His many good friends and family will miss his unfailingly sound advice, his calm demeanor, and especially his sense of humor, which stayed with him to the end. The family requests that friends who wish to make memorial contributions direct them to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, the Mayo Clinic, or to the charity of their choice.

Dear Kathleen, Marilyn and Jennifer,

I worked for Mr. Huggins from 1991 to 1996 as his secretary. I always appreciated his sound advice, practical manner and genuine concern for others. I did not know he had been ill and missed the service. May God walk with you during this difficult time. I have my treasure chest of memories of Mr. Huggins.

May the God of all comfort provide the family with the needed strength and courage so as to endure your great loss. Also you can be comforted by reflecting on a time when all causes of death will be eliminated.

Dear Huggins family:

I was greatly saddened to hear of John's passing. I have wonderful memories of John, both professionally and as young amateur tennis and golf players struggling to play as well as we thought we should. Never quite made it. He did have a great sense of humor about it though, and I feel honored to have known him. I pray God's blessings and comfort for all of you.

Marilyn & Jennifer: Although I did not
know your Dad very well, I do remember
meeting him at Jana`s and my wedding in
July, 1975. I hope you and your beautiful family will take comfort in a short passage from Psalm 116;
"Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of His faithful ones."
Blessings and our deepest sympathies,

All Huggins Family-

I have lost a good friend , companion, fellow outdoorsman, and confidente. We shared many great moments, including rubber on the road --riding motorcycles around Columbia County. I am thankful his pain and suffering is over. But I feel a great loss. I am very sad.

Dear Kathleen, Marilyn, and Jennifer,
We are so very sorry for your loss. John was a fine gentleman of high integrity; he was a man’s man and a tremendous shot; he had an easy smile; but most importantly, he loved his wife, his daughters and grandsons. Our entire community and family are richer for having known him; all that knew him will miss him. We pray that you will find peace and comfort in the knowledge and confidence that John now rests with God.
With our warmest condolences and love,
Diane, David, Helen, and Jacqueline Modesett

A brilliant light has been extinguished.
An incredible man--loving husband to Kathleen, father of two daughters and grandfather to 5 grandsons. Talented attorney and amazing sportsman. Dad, we will all miss you in so many ways. You have been a rock in my life-- always there for me in good times and bad, with sound advice and always something humorous thrown in. May the Lord welcome you to His eternal
kingdom and may you rest in peace. I will always be grateful for having such an amazing Father. All of my Love-
