JOHN McCONVILLE Obituary

McCONVILLE--John Patrick. John Patrick McConville, 88, of Charlotte NC passed away on May 29, 2024 in Charlotte, NC. He was born on March 1, 1936 in Queens, NY the son of Patrick James McConville of County Tyrone, Northern Ireland and Mary Patricia (nee Conifrey) McConville of Leatrim, Ireland. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Christina, his sister Eileen Anders, her son Robert, her daughter Carolyn Schatzberg (Evan), niece Patricia Ergas (Ralph), nephew Hugh O'Rawe (Tricia), sister- in-law Mary McConville, and her son Christopher (Emily). He is predeceased by his sister Patricia O'Rawe, her husband, their son Michael and his brother Bill McConville. After attending All Hallows High School, John graduated from The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY with a Bachelor of Science degree. He served in the Navy; as well as the Reserve Navy for 22 years. He was retired as a Commander. He furthered his education at St John's Law school where he received his degree as a lawyer. He started his career at a private law firm, before joining the law department of Bethlehem Steel in the Marine Shipping Division, thereafter he joined Ocean Transportation at Sea Land Industries. He returned to Bethlehem Steel as VP of their Marine Division, his last position was as Associate General Counsel for Sea Land Industries in New Jersey and retired from the company in Charlotte, NC in 2001. After retirement he volunteered for 20 years with the AARP Tax Program at Tyvola Senior Center in Charlotte. John loved to travel and did so extensively in business and personally. His favorite sport was skiing which be did for most of his adult life and continued until he was 84. He completed two NYC marathons in his fifties, loved cycling in NYC, was an avid reader and huge fan of the New York Giants and Yankees. He was a great story teller, he usually began with "I KNEW A GUY"... In lieu of flowers, please donate to The National/ American Kidney Foundations. Celebration of Life is planned for a later time.

Uncle John was a wonderful and kind-hearted person. He was always there for his family, offering love and support in times of need. Uncle John will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and his fabulous eyebrows.
