John McCormack, Jr. Obituary

1944 - 2022
John Joseph McCormack Jr., 77, of Vero Beach passed away on February 6, 2022. John was born August 22, 1944 in Morristown, New Jersey to John and Marion (nee Smith) McCormack. He served in the United States Army and later began a lifelong career in the insurance industry. He would retire as the Executive Vice President of TIAA-CREF in New York, New York.



Though his accolades are many a few of his proudest achievements were serving on the St. Bonaventure Board of Trustees from 1996 to 2012, as Vice Chair from 2004 to 2012 and on numerous other of the school's committees. In 2000 he established the John J. McCormack, Jr. Endowment Scholarship. He served on the FAM fund Board of Trustees from 2004 to 2018 and as Chairman from 2007 to 2018; Trustee of the APA Insurance Trust; Trustee of the Employment Benefit Research Institute; and on the Advisory Board of the Andrew Mellon Foundation.



John was preceded in death by his son, John Joseph McCormack III; his parents; brother, Patrick McCormack; sister-in-law, Susan Rush and brother-in-law, Peter Holden.



He is survived of his wife and best friend of 53 years, Judy; sons, Brendan (Sarah) McCormack of San Diego, California and Matthew McCormack of Tempe, Arizona; daughter, Maggie McCormack of Morris Plains, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Charli, Hannah, Penelope and Benjamin; sister, Catherine Holden; niece, Megan Rush; nephews, Rob (Liz), Peter (Inge), John (Karen) and Richard.



Memorial donations in John's honor may be made to the St. Bonaventure University John J. McCormack Jr. Scholarship. Donations may be mailed to University Advancement P.O. Box 2519, St. Bonaventure, NY 14778.



Arrangements are under the care of Millennium Cremation Service of Vero Beach. Friends are encouraged to leave fond memories of John and condolences for his family www.millenniumcremationservice.com.
