JOHN PICCOLO Obituary

PICCOLO--John D. John "Jack" Piccolo passed unexpectedly November 19, 2024, at the age of 91. Of Italian descent and a decades-long resident of Manhattan with a zest for life, he was a quintessential Renaissance man. He was born July 22, 1933, in Hartford, CT and attended Weaver High School. In 1961 Jack served four years in the AirForce in Wiesbaden, Germany. He attended USC-UCLA and graduated with a BFA from Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. Jack then worked for Grey Advertising in New York City as Art Director. He moved onto the prestigious firm of Doyle Dane Bernbach (DDB) as Creative Director of the Dusseldorf Office in Germany where he won advertising awards for Porsche, Volkswagen, Audi and Lufthansa. He returned to the states with DDB and received Clios and the Lion Award at the Cannes International Advertising Film Festival for Avis, American Airlines, and Polaroid. He left DDB as Executive Vice President in 1981 to open his own film production company, Pfeiffer Story Piccolo Guliner. Ineffably gregarious with Sean Connery good looks, his love of life was infectious. Jack was a dynamic creative person, an artist, chef, designer, painter, photographer and writer. He wrote a cooking guide, Timing Is Everything, and his later years were spent in painting. A world traveler with a fervor for adventure, lover of food, wine, art, literature, Italy and skiing. His love of people, wit and warmth was unmatched - a true Gentleman. He will be remembered for his kindness, curiosity, brilliance and charisma. He is survived by longtime loving partner Barbara Brock, his brother Richard Piccolo, his children Rick Piccolo, Karen Fisher, and John Piccolo, four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and three nieces and nephews.
