Dear Mrs. Stacks,
It´s Freddy, your former doorman.
On this tenth anniversary of his passing, I want to let you know that his presence in my life has never wavered.
Over the years, whenever Apple released a new iPhone or Mac device, I could see Mr. Stacks´ elated smile.
Thank you for allowing me into your lives.

For me, John was in that league of editors at TIME that represented the Golden Years of the magazine. He was always a gentleman, and I'm sad to hear of his passing.

It was my great good fortune to work for John for two years, and he was an exemplary mentor. He taught me things about handling myself and working with others, and I have used those lessons every day since. Thanks again, John. Albest, Jamie Malanowski

On behalf of my classmates in the Yale Class of 1964, I extend condolences to John's family and friends. John had many friends in our class and enriched it over many years. We mourn his passing and will remember him on our Class Website (www.yale64.org) and at a memorial service on campus during our 50th reunion in June 2014. Anthony M. Lavely, Class Secretary

Carol, We will all miss him so much. Such a gentle, funny, loveable, brilliant and talented person. I think I'll especially remember him relaxing in the easy chair by the fire in Ireland, reading or making us laugh with his quiet, witty observations. I am so very sorry, for you and for all of us.
Hearts full of love, Dana & Dick

John was, above all, a gentleman. I remember his playfulness, something that is in too short supply in institutions. John humanized Time for me, blew up its stuffiness, and showed real compassion. When my son died ten months ago I called John -- I had attended a memorial years earlier for his son. John offered me true comfort (rare indeed) and told me how he kept in touch with his son's friends and even played a game of golf with them and bent an elbow with them. Never did he hint that there was anything wrong with his health. Our conversation was all about his effort to comfort me. John was, above all, a gentle man.

No, I do not need help finding the right words, inadequate though they may be. John was an elegant, gracious man who brought intelligence and humor to his work and his companionship. I was privileged to see both qualities on display working in the same building for many years, most recently as a fellow judge on the Luce Awards Committee. I hate it that he is gone.

We are so incredibly shocked and sorry to hear of John's passing. He was such a wonderful guy. Great sense of humor. So kind. He will be missed. Dave and Cheri Noyac

It will be an honor indeed to celebrate the excellence of John's life next Friday. He was the best humanity has to offer and I was lucky to share a little time with him at family gatherings. Our love and healing thoughts are with you all. Ginny and Bob Duffy

Remembering the many times we discussed sports, politics, or Apple. Quick with a kind word or a big laugh. It was a pleasure being your doorman. May you rest peacefully, Mr. Stacks.
