It was with great sadness that I read on the home page nytimes.com that John Tishman had passed. He and his
late wife, Sue, had been like second parents to me. They were next door
neighbors in Cold Spring, NY during my formative years. I will always
remember him for his wry sense of humor and for how he helped with the
snow plow on his Jeep to clear snow off the lake so we could skate, and
he made it super smooth with a sump pump. I recall him having dinner on
our screened front porch and telling us that he was going to be building
the tallest building in the world. He attended my wedding 23 years ago
and the unveiling for my mother's grave stone, five years ago. I'm glad
that last year, I manage to arrange for him and my then 101-year-old dad
to have a reunion lunch. My sympathy goes to his kids, Kate and Dan.
