JOHN W. WESTLEY

WESTLEY--Dr. John William, 75, died December 12, 2011, at his home in Petaluma, California, after a brave and lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. Dr. Westley was born on February 5, 1936, in Sawston, Cambridgeshire, England. He received his B.Sc. degree and Ph.D. degree in 1961 in Chemistry from the University of Nottingham. That year, he moved to Palo Alto, California with his wife Angela and one-year old son Nicholas, to pursue post-doctorate studies at Stanford University. In 1964, a second son, Peter, was born. In 1968 the family moved to New Jersey. During the course of his career as a research chemist at Hoffman La-Roche and SKB, Dr. Westley published 110 scientific papers and was awarded 32 patents. In 1996, John moved back to California with Camille Dixon. The two were married in 2003. Dr. Westley is survived by his wife, his brother Ivan, his two sons, their wives, Monica and Lisa, and his four grandchildren, Aidan, Allison, Sydney, and Alexandra.
