JONATHAN LEVIN Obituary

LEVIN--Jonathan William. Jonathan William Levin (January 26, 1958 - April 21, 2022). Jonathan W. Levin passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at his home in Manhattan at the age of 64 following a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the son of Philip (deceased) and Carmine Levin and brother to Lawrence Scott Levin and sister Cathy Elizabeth Levin. He was the beloved husband to Susy Sarfaty for over 30 years, and adoring father to their three loving children - Roberto, Janette, and Philip. Jonathan grew up in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania and graduated from Cheltenham High School. He attended Duke University where he received an A.B. in Economics in 1980. Jonathan attended Northwestern University and was awarded both MBA and JD degrees in 1984. He is a member of the Illinois Bar. He later endowed two scholarship funds at Duke University - both in honor of beloved professors and mentors. Mr. Levin's professional career began in the investment banking division of Lehman brothers in New York where he was a senior vice president, responsible for new business development and the execution of corporate finance and merger and acquisition transactions for financial institutions from 1984-1995. He then spent two years as a managing director for the Kamakura Corporation - a risk management consulting and software development company based in Japan. In 1997, he joined The Williams Capital Group LP to establish the firm's corporate finance operation. He was responsible for the marketing execution of all corporate capital markets and securities underwriting services. From 2019 onwards, Jonathan Levin served as head of corporate finance at the recently merged Siebert Williams Shank & Co., LLC. He holds a black belt degree in Korean karate. An accomplished athlete, he completed half marathons, 5am marine boot camp workouts, and tough Mudder courses on several occasions. He played the banjo and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. His love of family and friends defined him. He touched many lives from all walks of life in a significant way. He was selfless, always uplifting others.

I met Jonathan 34 years ago in Mexico, negotiating on opposite sides of the deal we were working on. We became friends then and living in different countries and seeing other once or twice a year, we were very close. He was a best friend who always made you felt nothing mattered more to him at that moment than sharing it with you. We shared everything and we got to know our families very well (although they never met). I could talk endlessly about him, he was my friend, thinking about him always bought a smile to my face. That was his gift, embodied love. My friend, I miss you but will always have you close

35+ years ago when Shearson was merging with Lehman Brothers I was responsible that year for hiring the newly minted MBAs into our entry level investment banking division. Jonathan was one of a handful of associates that we hired. It was a very good decision...! Regrettably we had not always stayed in touch over the years but whenever we got together I was always impressed with Jonathan´s enthusiasm, intelligence, and warmth and I would be reminded of that great decision so many years ago. Yesterday while visiting NYC from Florida, I attended services at the synagogue where coincidentally the Levin and my family both belong. I was there on the anniversary of my father-in-laws´ passing. There is that moment in the service that the rabbi reads the names of those congregants who recently passed away. That is when I learned the tragic news...! Now that I am mostly living in Florida I would not have otherwise known. There is something very serendipitous about this..!
My thoughts are with the Levin family at this difficult time and wanted to share that there is yet another member of Jonathan´s considerable fan club who is having difficulty digesting this news..!

My deepest condolences to his family and friends. Jon and I went all through school (Grade 1-12) together. He was my tennis partner in PE and always the most loving and kind friend. It was so wonderful to reconnect with him at our 40th reunion in 2016. The world is a little darker with his passing. Debra Block

I was John´s classmate at Cheltenham and Duke. We kept an eye on each other. I always enjoyed our check-ins. I had hoped to run into him at Barclays for the ACC final a few weeks ago-I´m so sorry to hear this sad news. My sympathies and hugs.

My deepest sympathies for your loved ones. I had the pleasure to have a working relationship with Jonathan for four years. He was one of the kindest and most genuine people I've known. May God bless you all.
