JOSEPH HELLMAN Obituary

HELLMAN--Joseph. Joseph Hellman, beloved husband of Roberta Hellman (nee Langbaum) for 68 years, left us on January 9, 2023 after a short illness. He was the devoted father of James and adoring grandfather to Jameson, Jack and Jennifer Hellman. He was predeceased by his parents, Anna and Irving Hellman, his sister Phyllis Krauss, and his brother-in-law Eric Langbaum. Born in New York City, he graduated Queens College and received his J.D. degree from Columbia University Law School in 1954, where he was an editor of the Columbia Law Review. He was a founding partner of the firm Kronish Lieb Weiner and Hellman, and a member of the New York City Bar Association. Known as lawyer's lawyer, he conducted many arbitrations. He was a member of the Guilford Preservation Society. His booming voice and laughter were clearly recognizable. The life of the party, his high spirits animated all of our gatherings. He loved contract bridge, classical music and the New York City Ballet. With his family, he traveled extensively in Europe and Asia, enjoying the sights and food. Joe and Roberta's summers at Fire Island were always a joy, surrounded by dear friends and family. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be scheduled in the Spring.

Joe became my "father" in business and he and Roberta became lifelong friends, very dear and loved friends, since the 1970's. We love Roberta, share her loss heavily, and wish all we and heaven can.
