JOSEPH PENNETTI Obituary
PENNETTI--Joseph. 92 years old, died at the Benedictine Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston, NY at the end of July, 2023. At this time, the exact cause of death and date of death is unknown and is under investigation. Jospeh Pennetti was born in Volturara Irpina, Italy on February 1701, 1931. It's a beautiful mountain town in the province of Avelino, Campania, Italy. Joe was the youngest of four children of Michelina and Angelo Pennetti and is survived by 11 nieces and nephews. Joe has three brothers, Elviro, Dominic and Fiorentino, who are all deceased. Joe moved from Italy to Argentina, then from Argentina to Brooklyn, NY, where he lived for many years. Joe was a very active and popular person in his Brooklyn community. He owned and operated a supermarket called Sunset Grocery in Sunset Park for many years. He also owned and operated a parking lot in Sunset Park for many years. He also owned a few apartment buildings. He sponsored baseball and softball teams. He was also president of his Co-op building for many years. He loved making a garden every year at his upstate New York country house in the Catskill Mountains. He used stuff from his garden to make the very best, most delicious Chicken Cacciatore ever! He would put fresh, homegrown string beans, peppers and onions, squash, zucchini, tomatoes, broccoli, and many different spices all from his garden, into the chicken cacciatore. Wow!!! Perfection. Joe was an excellent card player. He was almost impossible to beat at the Italian card game, Briscola and other card games. Joe was also excellent at the Italian game Bocce-ball. Joe and I won first prize in a Bocce-ball tournament. Joe and I, John Setto, were best friends and roommates for 43 years. He was one of the most beautiful people to ever grace Planet Earth. What an honor and privilege it was for me to be roommates and best friends with such a magnificent man. He was a brilliant, kind, generous man. Joe was an expert on History, Languages, Linguistics, Geography, Religion, and many other things. He donated lots of money to his favorite charities. His funeral service was held at Daniel J. Schaefer in Brooklyn, New York on September 1st, and he was buried in Green-wood Cemetery on September 2nd, 2023. The world was a much better place when Joe Pennetti was alive. He was an incredible teacher and educator. After people talked to Joe for a while, they would tell me "Wow, I just learned so much from Joe! Joe was a genius!" There's so much more that could be said about this incredible man .....
