Joseph Truesdale Obituary

1945 - 2011
Joseph Robinson "Tag" Truesdale, III, formerly of Warner and Hopkinton, New Hampshire, died on October 4 in Blue Hill, Maine, from lymphoma. He was the son of the late Joseph R. Truesdale, Jr. and Suzanne (Cobb Sessions Havens) Truesdale Jackson and the stepson of the late Gilder D. Jackson, III.

Born on November 28, 1945, at the Brooklyn Naval Hospital in New York, Tag grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, and Wilbraham, Massachusetts, attending the Tower Hill School, Wilbraham Academy, and Minnechaug High School, where he was an all-state guard on the Massachusetts state champion basketball team. After graduating from the Grosse Pointe University School in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, he attended Michigan State University, before volunteering to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict. After two tours as a naval aviator, he finished his studies at California State University in San Jose.

His career in finance included service at the Federal Reserve Bank and numerous commercial banks, as well as with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. As a senior executive at American Savings, Tag oversaw the nation's largest savings and loan merger, and then later worked to combat the New England banking crisis in the early 1990s. At the end of his career, up until the month he died, Tag worked with beloved colleagues and clients as a director at Evolve Technologies in Salem, New Hampshire.

Tag was known for his generous spirit and outreach to those in need, both friends and strangers. He collected books, enjoyed refurbishing antique furniture, and loved to fly fish, hunt, and play golf. He was devoted to his adoring family, and nothing gave him more pleasure than making his grandkids laugh with a Donald Duck imitation or a bellowing elephant noise.

Tag Truesdale is survived by his three children: Joseph R. "Jay" Truesdale, IV, and his wife Jacqueline, serving at the U.S. Embassy in Budapest, Hungary; Katharine C. Frothingham and her husband Cameron of Brooksville, Maine; and Benjamin L. Truesdale of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Athens, Greece; and his five grandchildren: Ella, Augusta, Charlie, and Alden Truesdale, and Grayson Frothingham.

As a tribute to Tag, his family asks that you maintain his legacy by offering a loving hand to those in need. A memorial service will be held at the Old Chapel at St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire, on October 22 at 2:00 pm. Please join us in celebrating the life of a wonderful father and friend.

Hello, my name is Deborah L. Charow. I was blessed to meet Tag through my former husband. We had talked on the phone several times with him and when he was hospitalized in Blue Hill Maine, I had the privilege to finally meet this incredible man. We drove 5 hours to see him and spent about 1 hour visiting with him. He changed my life. He was a beautiful soul, a blessing to everyone that knew him and a precious gift to his family. I will never forget him. And believe me that when I say I wouldn´t trade the hour I got to spend with him for all the money in this world, I am telling you the absolute truth. He was one of a kind and " He Finished Well. "
Say hello to God for me Tag... still miss you

I worked with Tag at American Savings and FCA Mortgage Securities. A great guy and I'm sorry I lost touch with him after the mid '80s. My best to his family.

A second father to me growing up, spending at least 1 night at week at the ol' Gage Hill House, Ben and I would never cease to torment him with all of the apples we would leave in the yard (really bad for the lawn mower blades.)

Tag made it clear to me and my sister that if we ever needed anything we could come to him - be it a hug, a laugh, a place to stay or someone to talk to.

I only got to meet Tag a few times at Evolve meetings and holiday gatherings. You could tell he was a man who always considered others first. If you only met him once, you would never forget him.
Thoughts and prayers to the family.

My heart aches for Tag's family. Even in high school he was a compassionate person which is one of the reasons I have so many fond memories of him. I am so glad I made contact with him over 40 years later. He was a very special person.

To family and friends of Tag. I met Tag through our office of the VT Div of Fire Safety. We became very fond of Tag and respected him very much. After time I found out he was a Vietnam veteran, my son had served two tours Iraq and Tag always made a point to ask about him and ask how he was doing when he'd stop by on business. I will miss him and our conversations very much, as I know others I work with will. He was a great and caring man.

Jay, Katie and Ben and grandchildren- I was saddened to learn this morning of Tag's passing. He and I worked extensively together on a legal project years back. I had always liked and respected Tag and admired his kindness. We didn't see each other too often after the legal project but when we did cross paths, he would give me a big hug and we would talk like friends who saw each other weekly. I forget exactly when it was, but probably several months back, we sat and chatted for a half hour in a coffee shop and caught up on life. Your dad was still the same caring, kind man I had known for years. Even though he mentioned he had beaten a serious health issue, he seemed to want to hear more about my life than his. With all the corporate and individual greed in the world, Tag was someone who cared about people and fairness. I am sorry for your loss and I am sorry to have lost an old friend. I will miss him.

Jay, Katie, and Ben and families ---
My deepest sympathy on the loss of your Dad. I remember years ago doing a weekend seminar with folks from St. Andrew's and First Congregational Church, Hopkinton, on how to read scripture with purpose and meaning. It was a life turner for both of us. Our paths crossed now and again over the last ten years, but not enough. Take comfort that he was a good man, loved and respected by many. Unfortunately, I will not be able to be with you next Saturday, but know my thoughts will be there as you celebrate the life of your wonderful Dad.

A smile to remember...

I am sad to hear of the loss of a great soul. Tag will be remembered by many in our fellowship as one who gave of himself without expecting anything in return.. a true example of a humble servant, and an honorable and respected man. I will remember his kind and loving words on many occasions. Thank you Tag for the gifts you gave and left with us... Everlasting. Laurie N.

Sorry to learn of Tag's passing. Tag was a wonderful man who did alot for many people, not wanting recognition. He was well liked and respected and will be sorely missed.

I am saddened to learn of Tag's passing. We spent many an evening in the chapels and on the lovely grounds of St. Paul's School, discussing affairs of the heart and of the world. He was a multi-faceted, kind and good humored man. To Tag's family I offer my sincere condolences, and for Tag, and you all, my prayers.
