JUDITH BAUM Obituary

BAUM--Judith. We mourn the passing of Judith Baum who died of a heart attack on Friday, at 77. She was a beloved parent and grandparent. Born in Brooklyn on January 4, 1936, Judith graduated from Erasmus Hall high school in 1953 and Barnard College in 1957. After her husband's death in 1974, she received a masters degree from Columbia University in Library Science. She dedicated her professional life to advocacy for improvement of public education. In recent years she was known to parents throughout New York City for her "Ask Judy" column on the Inside Schools website. She published her last blog post hours before she died. Judith leaves her long-time companion, Ike Henkoff; two daughters, Erica and Jenny; two grandchildren, Dashiell and Caleb; her sons-in-law, Tim Allen and Henry Sivak; Ike's daughter Lisa Henkoff: her husband Manu Rana; and their daughter Maya. The funeral will be held Monday, December 23rd at the Plaza jewish Community Chapel at 630 Amsterdam Ave.
