KARACABEY SINANOGLU Obituary

SINANOGLU--Karacabey Levni.

Died unexpectedly in his studio in New Haven on June 1, 2016. Sinanoglu was an artist and educator; a man of brilliance, creativity, humanity and passion. He was beloved by his family, professors, students, colleagues, friends, and the New Haven community. He graduated in 1989 from Hampshire College and in 1996 from Yale School of Art majoring in painting. At Yale he was the recipient of the Arnold Bittleman Memorial Prize for painting and the Alice Kimball English Traveling Fellowship. He held faculty positions at Yale University, Hampshire College and Gateway Community College. Sinanoglu was the son of Paula Armbruster and Oktay Sinanoglu, both retired professors at Yale University. He is survived by his mother, Paula Armbruster of New Haven, CT; his son, Ayuka W. Sinanoglu, of New Haven, CT; his sister, Elif S. Armbruster, of Arlington, MA; and his brother, Murat Armbruster, of Oakland, CA; his former wife, Saglar Bougdaeva, of Abu Dhabi and New Haven, CT; and a niece and a nephew. A memorial service will be held at Dwight Chapel, Yale University at 1pm on June 18, 2016. Gifts in his memory may be directed to the Karacabey Levni Sinanoglu Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Yale School of Art and mailed to the Office of Development at PO Box 2038, New Haven, CT 06521.
