KUNAL PATEL Obituary

PATEL--Kunal. Kunal Patel, February 15, 1987 - October 23, 2014. We are celebrating the life of an extraordinary human being, Kunal Patel who was with us for 27 years and passed away on October 23rd after a tragic bike accident. Kunal was born and raised in San Francisco Bay Area, CA, went to the University of Southern California for his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering and then received his Masters in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University. He was a research intern in nanotechnology at the NASA Ames Research center and most recently an entrepreneur; in true Silicon Valley style, he cofounded a company called Arevo Labs. At 27, he had accomplished more than most do in a lifetime. Kunal was a star athlete he was passionate about soccer, completed the Escape from Alcatraz and New York Triathlons, and was a 4.5 USA National tennis champion. He loved classical music and was an extraordinary traveler, backpacking through so many countries all over the world and always looking for off the beaten path experiences with great enthusiasm and energy. Most importantly, Kunal was kind, compassionate, affectionate, gentle, and always brimming with a zest for life. He taught us how to live life to the fullest, encouraging us to explore beyond our boundaries, and always coming up with new ideas for family and friends. He was our inspiration: an amazing son, a wonderful brother, and an extraordinary human being. Words cannot describe how much we will miss you Kunal but we are grateful for the years we had with you. Our blessings for your journey ahead and thank you for all you gave us. Our love will always be with you. Mom, Dad and Monique

We never had an opportunity to know Kunal due to the distance but heard how he inspired everyone. We are glad to say that he was one of our very own and Proud to say he belonged to our family.
We are really sorry for your loss, our deepest condolence, prayers and thoughts with the family. And as I learnt that Kunal always said "Live Life to your fullest, enjoy life, grief but move on as life has much to offer. Hope his inspired and motivational words will help me to appreciate and see things differently in positive way and be able to pass it to my family n friends.
Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you -

I met Kunal at Cornell.
He had such a calming and soothing demeanor about him - it was contagious.
I found myself treating others with more respect and courtesy in his presence.

I met Kunal briefly, and I feel so lucky to have done so because his exuded an energy that was contagious and inspiring, whether it was through was speaking about his company, recommending a good restaurant, or his sharing his experiences from a recent trip to Patagonia. However, I really learned about Kunal through Monique's stories. That's how I know how much of an amazing brother he was to her - humorous, motivational, and compassionate. I give all my love to Monique and her family during this tough time.

Kunal was a truly wonderful person, full of life and energy. He was determined, kind and wise beyond his years. It saddens me to hear of his passing. I am forever greatful for the time I was able to spend backpacking with Kunal. He will be missed.
