KURT MASUR Obituary
The Board of Trustees and staff of Carnegie Hall mourn the passing of our dear friend, the internationally acclaimed conductor Kurt Masur. Maestro Masur made his Carnegie Hall debut in 1974, leading the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. He returned for forty more appearances at the Hall throughout his illustrious career, conducting the Gewandhaus, New York Philharmonic, London Philharmonic Orchestra, and other world-renowned ensembles. We cherish the memories of these extraordinary performances and will always remember his incredible artistry, his belief in the power of music to bring people together, and his strong musical leadership at the helm of the New York Philharmonic. We express our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Tomoko, and to all of his family, friends, and loved ones. Sanford I. Weill, President; Mercedes T. I am so sorry to hear of his passing and having the terribly debilitating disease. and not since Zuben Mehta was the orchestra a force in the industry. Living in NYC the last 27 years I must say the Philomonic is back to being a world class orchestra and this success must be credited to Kurt for his discipline and musical prowess made this group respect him from day one and it still shows today.

Masur was one talented, strong man, whose contribution to music and society touched the hearts of many.
