Kurt Thomas Obituary
Kurt Thomas, age 75, Resident Manager of the Mayflower Hotel on Central Park West and the Salisbury Hotel on West 57th St., passed away peacefully at his home on March 7, 2014.
Mr. Thomas came to Brooklyn in 1959 from a small town in Germany, a young man with little English. He became a fixture in our family, hosting weddings, family events, and endless trips to New York at the Mayflower Hotel. He was a constant presence on Central Park West where he walked his full-sized poodles, Timber, and then, Dakota, making friends with everyone in that part of the Upper West Side. He collected Asian Art, kept charming cockatiels, and introduced us to Jack Hanna's animals who stayed at the Mayflower Hotel. He taught us that family is big and love opens the world wide.
Mr. Thomas was predeceased by his parents Walter and Maria Thomas and his sister, Christa Eggert.
He is survived by his sister Inge tumSuden (husband, Hartwig), nieces Ina tumSuden and Kristina Eggert, nephews Ralf tumSuden (wife Angelika) and Michael Eggert, and grandnephew Justin tumSuden, all of whom reside in Germany.
He is also survived by an extended family in the United States.
The families of Mr. Thomas wish to thank all those people with whom he worked at the Mayflower and The Salisbury hotels for their faithful service.
A memorial service will be held in the Central Park area in the Fall.

Worked with Mr Thomas at the Mayflower hotel from 1985 to 1990! Mr Thomas and Mr Fenn were my mentors ! Both were professionals! Love working for them and miss the Mayflower ver much! I worked as the purchasing agent for the restaurant !

I will miss you my dear friend and supervisor. Your passing came as an extreme shock to me and I still cannot come to terms that you were taken so suddenly from this place...God always knows what's best. I will cherish the many memories of you and you will never be gone for me for I will speak of you as if you were still here. Rest in peace dear Kurt and know that you have left a void in my life.
