LAWRENCE ABELMAN Obituary

ABELMAN--Lawrence E. December 20, 1935--November 10, 2023. Larry died peacefully after suffering a stroke in May. He was predeceased by his parents, Bessie and Herman Abelman; his wife Marjorie; and his two brothers, Max and Jerry. Larry went to Cornell University (Class of 1957) where he and Marjorie met. He attended NYU Law School and spent the next 61 years truly enjoying and excelling in the field of international trademark law. He was a founding partner in 1980 of Abelman, Frayne & Schwab, located in New York City, where he worked with many of the same people for decades. Larry is survived by his loving sister Sally Bennett; several nieces and nephews; his three children Ellen Jacobs (Mark), Julianne Abelman Gansberg (Jeff) and Jerry Abelman (Catherine); and his four granddaughters Jessie Rubinstein Pascale (Mike), Madeleine Jacobs, and Isabella and Lizzie Abelman. In addition to his family, Larry loved the Yankees, American history and collecting antique maps. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

I just discovered that Larry had passed away, as my former colleagues hadn't notified me. He was a great man whose firm was far more influential in the field of Intellectual Property Law than its size would suggest. Baruch Dayan haEmet.

I am very sorry for your loss and you have my sincerest sympathies. I will always be grateful for Mr. Abelman for giving me the opportunity to work for his firm for over 20 years and have learned a great deal. On a more personal note, whenever I saw him in the elevators he always asked after my dog. Always. I will always love him for that. Ann Ngai (former employee)
