LAWRENCE FRIEDLAND Obituary

FRIEDLAND--Lawrence N. Lawrence N. Friedland, prominent real estate attorney, investor, friend, and trusted advisor to many in New York and the United States, died April 10, 2025, at home in New York after a short illness. He was a young 102. "Larry, as all his close clients and friends called him, was a huge force for good," said Olshan Frome Wolosky LLP's Real Estate Law Practice Co-Chair, Thomas D. Kearns. "He was always connecting people, communities, and businesses to help them accomplish their goals and dreams, big or small." A World War II veteran, Friedland served in the U.S. Army before beginning his long and distinguished legal career. For over 60 years, he advised and represented private companies, high-net-worth individuals, and families on real estate, tax, corporate, estate, and personal and business planning matters. Friedland helmed some of New York City's most iconic real estate deals, among them, the purchase and ground lease of the Lever Brothers building at 390 Park Avenue; the ground lease for land under the Crown Plaza Hotel; the purchase of One Penn Plaza; and the acquisition and sale of numerous prestigious properties on Park Avenue. Friedland was counsel to Olshan Frome Wolosky LLP since 2001. He was a long- time member of the boards of Apple Bank For Savings and Lutron Electronics Co., Inc. Before that, he was a managing partner at Hoffinger Friedland Dobrish & Stern. Friedland graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor's degree in 1947 and a law degree in 1949. He obtained a Master of Laws degree from New York University Law School in 1966. Friedland never lost his love of chocolate or his hearty laugh, and was fond of referring to colleagues, even grey-haired ones, as "kid." He is survived by his beloved wife, Alice, their three children, Patricia Friedland Templeton, John Friedland and Paul Friedland, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. He will be sorely missed by his Olshan family.
