LEO KUPERSCHMID Obituary

KUPERSCHMID--Leo, May 6, 1930 - November 3, 2022. Devoted son of Fanny and Morris Kuperschmid, brother of David, loving husband of Lois, beloved father of Paul and Mark, and adoring grandfather of Lyle and Ben. Leo was born in Brooklyn, NY and then lived in both Manhattan and the Bronx before moving to Chappaqua, NY where he attended Horace Greeley High School. There, he excelled both in the classroom and on the basketball court. Leo graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Union College in 1952 and Columbia Law School in 1956. He worked in New York City for most of his career, where he developed a reputation for being extremely bright, conscientious, and profoundly dedicated to his work. He was an ardent supporter of the oppressed and very active in the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s, when he worked with Reverend Martin Luther King. During his long career as a Manhattan attorney, he used his great sense of humor to ease even the tensest of situations. Despite the very heavy demands of his job, he would always find the time to relax with his family and friends. After retiring from his practice in the city, he continued to generously give both his time and money as an advocate for the underdog; those who most needed help. Leo's commitment to and caring for his wife, children, and grandchildren never stopped. He was a resident of Armonk, NY for 25 years and then of Wilton, CT for 20 years. He moved to Pennsylvania in 2015 where he lived with his wife, who passed away in 2018, at Freedom Village. Leo was a wonderful person; full of life, love, patience and understanding. He was adored by his whole family, including several generations of cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends. Leo holds a very special place in our hearts. He made the world a better place for us all. We miss him so very much.
