LEO STERN Obituary

STERN--Dr. Leo, Jr., passed away peacefully at home on the afternoon of May 18, 2021 at age 98. He is survived by his children, Liz (Arne Pearlstein), Jay, and Tony, his companion Renee Landau, and his sister-in-law Dorothy Stern. He is also survived by his grandchildren Charles (fiancee Alexis), Joe, Marguerite, Dan, and Eli, in all of whom he took enormous pride, and by nephews Lee and Randy and niece Indra. He was predeceased by his wife Enid, after nearly sixty years of devoted marriage, and his brothers Peter and Andrew. He graduated from Columbia College and Columbia Dental School, and practiced as a dentist and oral surgeon. He joined his father Leo, both "true Mount Sinai men," in establishing Mount Sinai's cleft palate diagnostic center. Bud was a lifetime New Yorker and an avid outdoorsman, especially fond of flyfishing on the Beaverkill River. He was also dedicated to the conservation movement since the early 1960s, particularly through the Sierra Club and the New York League of Conservation Voters. He was a longtime member of Sunningdale Country Club. His family is deeply grateful for the superb care given by his aides, Ian, Billy, Joshua, and Joey. We will treasure the memories of his love and loyalty, his dignity and sense of humor, and his enthusiasm for the worlds of nature and literature.

Dr Stern was my first and last interview as a dental assistant. During my 20 years with Dr Stern, I found more than a job, I found a family . I have so many fond memories working with Dr Leo and Enid and Dr Peter and Dorothy. My sincere condolences to all his family.
