LEVY--Dr. Leonard A. Dr. Leonard A. Levy, D.P.M., M.P.H. Age 87. Born in New York. Graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, New York University, NY College of Podiatric Medicine, and Columbia University, where he was the first podiatrist to receive an M.P.H. degree. He retired in 2016 as professor emeritus from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Even in retirement, he continued writing, lecturing and mentoring in the health professions and served on the Larkin University Board of Trustees. He was loved and admired personally and professionally, and many speak of the influential role he played in their lives. He is survived by his wife, Eleanore, his son Andrew Levy (Kelly), daughter Sara Dahm (Lance), his sister, Judy Karchensky and his favorite grandchild, Nolan Dahm. A lover of Chinese food, he delighted at being photographed at Chinese restaurants around the world. A consummate punographer and wordsmith, he always said he wanted his obituary to include, "He finally got in over his head."

Len was a very honorable person who cared more about helping people through his profession than making money. He was also the best Maven of Chinese Food and a loving caring person.

Dr. Levy was the founder of the College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at the Osteopathic School in Des Moines, Iowa. I was lucky enough have been in the first class to graduate in 1986. He had an open door policy with his students in his first class. I found him to be an affable and caring dean. He had the class join him at his home for brunch. His wife, Eleanore, was a beautiful and accomplished woman in her own right. Yes, he loved a good pun and introduced me and some of my classmates to fabulous Chinese food and plum wine (which he swore had no alcohol). He walked so fast and always took stairs two at a time, I couldn't keep up with him. I remember his wit and intelligence. Dr. Levy was a wonderful teacher and mentor. I have kept up with and Leonard and Eleanor through Melissa C. She was a friend of you both in Des Moines and she and her husband were patients of mine in central Florida, although it has been several years since I last saw them. I have missed Dr. Levy since he left Des Moines before I graduated in 1986. So sorry for your loss, Eleanore and family.

My deepest condolences to Eleanore and the family. Dr. Levy was a warm and kind human being, with a wonderful smile. My fondest memories of him were of he and Eleanore dancing to reggae music at my wedding.

Much love,

Lorraine

Len was a kind, caring loving, thoughtful and generous man who always cared more about others than himself. He devoted his life to his family and educating others to make our world a better place. We are grateful to have shared our life journey with Leonard and Eleanore who were a great partnership and loving parents. Much love, admiration & appreciation, Mike & Juliet Helft

What a wonderful obituary, describing a marvelous man. I forgot that he was a punster and I shared many Chinese dinners with him. I love this man.
