Ed Mullaney, Leland and B-CC Teacher
March 5, 2023
I was looking at the Bethesda Chevy Chase High School ( i taught at Leland 1966-1979 and BCC 1979-1966 ) Alumni Page and became reflective of many of the fine students that I had the good fortune to teach nad in some wy be a part of their life. I came across the death of Mindy Moaks Dad and wanted to share a special and long last memory of him. I ran the Leland Teen Club for many years and on the very first ski trip to Hidden Valley in Pennsylvania Mindy's Dad, Col Moak boarded the bus before leaving and said to me " Mr. Mullaney, you have a busload of treasures, please be careful." I never forgot the sound advice of that caring father and for the next 30 years that echoed in my brain as we took thousands of Leland and BCC'eers on hundreds of fun ski, beach, amusment park, Disney, trips all along the East Coast. He taught me how to be a caring and responsible teacher, adult chaperone and surrogate parent for the 1000'ss of students who participated in the Leland Teen Club and BCC Rec Club outings. Thank you Col. Moak for that sound and longlasting advice. Rest in peace!

I am sad. A lovely, lovely man I will never forget. I sold paving services to the property he last managed. During our first meeting, I learned he had attended the same high school as my mother, in Brooklyn, and I was pleasantly surprised when he sent me a newsletter that he still received from the school. During my periodic visits he proudly shared some of his military background, stories of his travels, and an occasional email with a funny YouTube video! A proud father, he beamed often about his children and grandchildren. I also know he missed his Phoebe terribly. It was an honor to have known this thoughtful gentleman. My deepest condolences to his family.
