CABOT--Louis. Louis Wellington Cabot, age 99, of Sarasota, Florida passed away January 29, 2021 in Tenants Harbor, Maine. He was born August 3, 1921, in Boston, to Thomas Dudley Cabot and Virginia Wellington Cabot. He received his B.A. and M.B.A. degrees from Harvard University. Former president and chairman of Cabot Corp, the Cabot Family Charitable Trust, and the Virginia Wellington Cabot Foundation, he served as Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and on the Boards of New England Telephone and Telegraph Company, Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation, R.R. Donnelley & Sons, Wang Laboratories, the Penn Central Railroad, Arthur D. Little, Inc., and the New England Merchants National Bank. He was Chairman of the Brookings Institution, board of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the Board of Conservation International, The Island Institute, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and was a trustee of Northeastern University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and Harvard University, Serving in World War II, he was a member of the Packard Commission on Defense Management; Chairman of the Sloan Commission on Government and Higher Education, the Committee for Corporate Support of Higher Education; U.S. Representative for the 15th Plenary Session of the U.N. Economic Commission for Europe; and a member of the Business Ethics Advisory Committee for the Department of Commerce. He was chairman of the winning 1992 America's Cup syndicate. A life-long sailor, skier, photographer, musician, and philanthropist, he loved sailing the coast of Maine with family and friends. He is survived by his wife and a large family of siblings, children, step-children and grandchildren.
