Thinking of wonderful Louis on this sad anniversary and how he inspired my career choice and our time chatting in his Oldsmobile on the way to court.

I was devastated to hear of Louis’ death. Few people have had such an impact on my life and I adored Louis.
Whilst I had met Louis on many occasions throughout my childhood, the first time I really got to know Louis was when I was 18 and spent the summer in New York. Louis would take me to the courts with him that summer and the following summer, every day. It was the most amazing and interesting opportunity for me and resulted in my deciding to become a lawyer (which I was otherwise a bit unsure about!). We would have lunch at the diner by the courts (pizza burger and a Hershey bar for me, something much healthier for Louis) and discuss the day’s events and the legal issues. Everyone we passed knew Louis and would stop for a chat. By the end of my visit, I was firmly embroiled in the New York legal scene and thought the world of Louis. He was so interesting, (in a way that transcended the years between us), smart and thoughtful.
Each year since, I have looked forward to coming to New York, to visit all of my relatives, but in particular Louis. I will feel a great loss when we visit in a couple of weeks’ time and am only sorry that I never got to introduce my little boy to Louis.
A big hug to Bea and also to Archie, who I look forward to seeing shortly, and my sincere condolences to you all.
With love,
Hayley Katz (London)

Dear
Gene,
Someone mentioned to me today that your dad had died. I am so sorry. I
was immediately reminded of how good he and your entire family were to
me. Among my many memories, I was particularly reminded of when he took me to my first Giants football
game when you couldn't go and how warm and gracious he was. Please send
my condolences to your mother and Stevie and I hope all is well with
you.
