LUCILLE BLACKWOOD Obituary

BLACKWOOD--Lucille

Constance Gunning, M.D., was born February 21, 1922 and passed peacefully on 26 April 26, 2018. Dr. Gunning graduated from high school in Jamaica, WI, earned a BA from NYU and an MD from Women's Medical College in 1949. She completed Pediatric training at Harlem Hospital (HHC) and Rehabilitation Medicine training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECoM). Dr. Gunning developed and directed divisions of Pediatric Rehabilitation at Montefiore Hospital (AECoM), HHC (Columbia University), and Wright State College of Medicine. She performed research on the development of Children with Sickle Cell Anemia, served as the Child Abuse Committee Chair at HHC, and was a Member of the NYC Mayor's Task Force on Child Abuse. She lectured internationally, and won multiple awards. She was the Deputy Director of Medical Services at MDC/OMRDD in Manhattan and in Tarrytown, NY. She also maintained a private pediatric practice for more than 45 years, and provided free care to those in need. Dr. Gunning was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Carlton Earle Blackwood. She is survived by her four children, Elaina, Alexander, Isabelle, and Anne; grand and great-grandchildren, sons and daughter-in-law, nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends. Memorial Service: June 9, 2018 at 12 Noon at Arigonni Chapel, 58 Mayflower Avenue, New Rochelle, NY.
