MARIA OCAMPO Obituary

OCAMPO--Maria Cristina, 82, fiercely loving and loved mother to Marcella and Claudia, mother-in-law to Brian and Laura, "Mima" to Gabriella Isabel, Anna Ofelia and Eva Lucia, aunt, sister, and sister-in-law. Mima was also a second mother and grandmother to scores of others across two generations. Born in Manizales, Colombia, she came to New York permanently at the age of fifteen. Phi Beta Kappa graduate of NYU in History with a minor in French, she went on to earn a Master's in Public Administration from NYU. She had a nearly

25-year career with the Social Security Administration where her compassion, humanity, and meticulous attention to detail ensured that everyone who came to her in need of benefits was given every opportunity to receive them and was treated with utmost dignity. She loved international travel, art, history and books. But her greatest love lives on in her family who she taught to love expansively and unconditionally, learn voraciously, and be accountable in the world for justice, charity and good works. Donations in her memory may be made to the social justice or service organization of your choice. May her memory be for a blessing.
