MARILYN BLUMBERG Obituary

BLUMBERG--Marilyn (Tolvin), age 88, of New York, passed away on May 22, 2023 of complications from cancer. Marilyn was born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1935, the daughter of Abe and Fannie Tolvin. Surrounded by family who lived throughout their neighborhood, she was one of a dozen cousins all named after the same grandmother. She attended Tilden High School and then the College of the City of New York, becoming the first in her family to attain a college degree, and went on to teach elementary school for several years in the New York City public school system. She met her husband Stanley on a blind date in 1955; they were married in 1957. They moved to Great Neck in 1967, and after their three daughters were grown they spent many happy decades in Manhattan and at their house in Southampton. Marilyn loved classical music, especially opera, and most especially Luciano Pavarotti. She and Stan would often take their daughters and then their grandchildren to the ballet and to concerts, and held subscription seats to the Metropolitan Opera for decades. Other passions of hers included traveling, eating good food, knitting and crocheting, and enjoying a good bottle of merlot. But more than anything else, she adored her grandchildren. Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband Stanley and her grandson Alec (Sasha). She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Lewis), Stacy (Jon) and Ruth (Andy), and her beloved grandchildren Avery, Aviva, Anna, Natan and Noah. Funeral services will be held at Judean Gardens in Olney, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Sasha's Play Space at the Sabes JCC, 4330 Cedar Lake Rd. S, Minneapolis, MN 55416. Tramontate, stelle! All'alba vincero!
