LLOSA--Martha Peter Welch (de). Martha Peter Welch de Llosa was born on December 22, 1932, and died on October 18, 2024, in New York. A loving mother and grandmother, accomplished journalist, editor and spiritual mentor, she died surrounded by her three children. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia S. Llosa and Thalia H. Llosa and her son, Luis Fernando M. Llosa (Mary); five cherished grandchildren (Chai, Isabel, William, Gabriel and Inigo); and her brother, Richard S. Crampton (Julia), her nieces Cordelia Gelly (James) and Suzanna Crampton and nephew Thomas Crampton (Thuy-Tien); niece Elizabeth Crampton Jenkins and step- sister Anne-Louise Jacquemin. Patty was the daughter of Savington W. Crampton and Louise Michel Blinken, and stepdaughter of William J. Welch. Patty graduated from Swarthmore College and the Sorbonne University. She began her career at Time Magazine, alongside Cranston Jones and later became managing editor at American Fabrics & Fashions, associate editor for Leisure, Deputy Chief of Reporters at Fortune, and editor and contributor to Parabola and the Daily Good. Following her marriage to Fernando Llosa Porras, she lived in Peru for 20 years. When her husband became governor of the Amazonian province of Loreto, she served as president of The Green Cross. Returning to Lima after a military coup, she founded the first foreign chapter of the United Nations' preschool, International Playgroup. Patty's spiritual journey began at 16 when she learned sacred dances from G I. Gurdjieff. In 1962, she learned Tai Chi from Formosan Master T. T. Liang, and thereafter dedicated herself to teaching these two practices. At 70, Patty became an Alexander Technique teacher. Patty's four books focused on the search for a spiritual path: The Practice of Presence (2005), Taming Your Inner Tyrant (2011), Finding Time for Yourself (2015), and Awakening Body Consciousness (2020). Her legacy is having guided many individuals to focus on the importance of awakening and tending to body consciousness. Her words can be read on her blog at
