A gift from Matt came before my eyes this evening. How could I have forgotten that in 2008 he took films at Emily's investiture as a cantor at HUC commencement. As I watched them this evening I remember him standing beside me.
In grateful remembran ce and love,

Tom Timberg and I heard from Judith by email; I was in Melbourne, and told Gowri in New York. I have stayed often with the Jacobsons, have seen Matt since he was a boy, but didn't know him closely; yet always such a gentle, kindly presence!

I just learned of Matt's tragic passing.

My condolences go out this his family.

I met Matt in Shanghai several years ago. Matt was clearly an extremely intelligent person and one of the best foreign Chinese speakers I have ever met. I to this day aspire to have the mastery of the Chinese language that achieved.

Barley knowing me at the time, Matt helped me out of a difficult situation and even put me up for a few nights. Matt was truly a gifted and generous person and the world is at a loss without him.

Dear Matt's family,

I only learned of what happened yesterday and I was really devastated by it. I got to know Matt at the UofC and we were good friends then. We still kept in touch after college and have met up a couple of times post-college. It's unfortunate that the last few years we corresponded less. I'm really sorry for your loss.

I am a Chinese friend of Matt's when he was in Shanghai back in 1999. Matt was a faithful friend, a genuine human being, and a truely global citizen. I am always amazed by his openess, gentlenss, modesty, and lingustic genius (can speak fluently at least Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Shanghain dialet). He has brought a lots of happiness, knowledge, and wisdom to people around him. He shall be remembered by many of us, Chinese and Japanese. We are reminded that death is only the end of one journey and the start of a greater one.

I was a guest in Matthew's home through Couchsurfing.com... he was an amazing host. I was just in the process of responding to one of his messages to me (thanking me for the coconut oil advice and recommending Alex's health suggestions) when the website did not let me reply. I'm so, so sorry for your loss and am shocked here halfway across the world in Qatar.

Condolences. Though you may not know of couchsurfing, he was an excellent host, open to new ideas, faces, and people. I'm so happy to have met him.
Best

Let me express my heart felt condoleances to Judy, Leon and Alex. I have only just learned of Matt's passing. I feel a sense of shock and deep sadness. I have known Matt since he was a young child. Although we only met every few years I felt a strong bond develop. I had the good fortune to spend quite a lot of time with him in New York in 2007 and felt I was with some one with a very special intellect and amazing curiosity for everything the world had to offer. I will never ever forget you Matt.

All the Jacobsons are dear to me. I have stayed often in their house and seen Matt often since he was a boy. I am sad that I shall not see gentle grave Matt again. But I know that he must be at peace.

I met Matt at Hebrew school, and when I later joined him at a new school when I was 10 years old, he really helped me to adjust in a new place. He remained a good and loyal friend through high school. Although we haven't seen one another in several years, I will always appreciate his friendship. Those of us who knew him are very saddened to hear of his loss.
