A gift from Matt came before my eyes this evening. How could I have forgotten that in 2008 he took films at Emily's investiture as a cantor at HUC commencement. As I watched them this evening I remember him standing beside me.
In grateful remembran ce and love,

Tom Timberg and I heard from Judith by email; I was in Melbourne, and told Gowri in New York. I have stayed often with the Jacobsons, have seen Matt since he was a boy, but didn't know him closely; yet always such a gentle, kindly presence!

I just learned of Matt's tragic passing.
My condolences go out this his family.

Dear Matt's family,
I only learned of what happened yesterday and I was really devastated by it. I got to know Matt at the UofC and we were good friends then. We still kept in touch after college and have met up a couple of times post-college. It's unfortunate that the last few years we corresponded less. I'm really sorry for your loss.

I am a Chinese friend of Matt's when he was in Shanghai back in 1999. Matt was a faithful friend, a genuine human being, and a truely global citizen. I am always amazed by his openess, gentlenss, modesty, and lingustic genius (can speak fluently at least Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Shanghain dialet). He has brought a lots of happiness, knowledge, and wisdom to people around him. He shall be remembered by many of us, Chinese and Japanese. We are reminded that death is only the end...
