Matthew was one of the great shining lights. I will miss him dearly. He always found a way to make me laugh when I would try to make him laugh. He was caring and loving man and will be missed by us all.

I'm so very sorry to hear about Matt's premature death! I didn't know him well while at Swarthmore in our mutual class of '73, and always had a good impression of him. I also remember being warmly impressed with his "quite kindness" and engagement at a recent class reunion. My heart goes out to his wife, kids, family and many friends.

Condolences to Matt's family and colleagues. Matt was a great a lawyer because he approached problem solving by mixing intellectual rigor with an understanding (and a desire to learn more about) the practical realties of a given situation. He was a great mentor to me during my tenure at Skadden and I credit him with shaping my own approach to the practice of law. And even in the 80's he tried to get anyone that had free time to attend off-off- broadway theater productions. I am sure he will be missed by everyone in the many worlds in which he travelled!

My college roommate and dear friend. I can't believe you are gone, Matthew. Your talent and kindness helped change the world. Your wit and laughter enlivened it. I will miss you more than words can say. May fond memories of you console your family and comfort your friends.

As the daughters of James Levitan, we would like to extend our condolences to Matt's family at his untimely passing. Of the many experiences our father had at Skadden, mentoring Matt was one of the ones he valued most, and we know he was proud of the extraordinary lawyer and exemplary person that Matt became. Our thoughts are with your family at this difficult time.

Matthew and I went to Central High School together and then Swarthmore College, where we graduated in the same year, 1973. To be honest, I had no idea that he had achieved such stardom in the legal profession or even that he became a lawyer, but in retrospect, this all makes sense, as do the nice things I've read about him. As a young guy, he was a role model for the rest of us. Condolences to all who knew him.

I had the pleasure of meeting Matthew some years ago. He was king enough to meet with me and share his insights about the tax profession. I will forever remember and cherish his modesty, his kindness and his words of encouragement. May he rest in peace.

To the superlatives previously noted I would add that Matthew's qualities as a teacher, in any setting, were unsurpassed, even of the most complex concepts. I feel fortunate to have been the beneficiary of his patience and wisdom and grace. My deepest condolences to Matthew's family, friends and colleagues.

What a, kind, smart and generous man. I only met Matthew six years or so ago, through Playwrights Horizons. We had many lunches and dinners together and I am awfully saddened to think there will be no more of them. My thoughts are with Mariana and his family.

May your memories of Matt be a treasure and a blessing. Terry Novick, his law school classmate, and I have Matt to thank for directing us to Philadelphia, a place we wouldn't have imagined without his encouragement. Our lives would have been so different.

My deepest sympathy to Matthew's loved one's. The world will be a less interesting place without him. His wit and intelligence along with the care he has shown toward his friends and his deep love of his family made him special. I am terribly sorry to have gotten this news.

I met Matt during our freshman year at Swarthmore and reconnected with him periodically over the last 15 years. He was the same funny, modest, warm person the last time we got together as he was the first time we met. His intellectual power was always apparent just below the surface, but first and foremost Matt was a giving, thoughtful and empathic person I was lucky to know.
