WARSHAUER--Matthew. Matthew Warshauer, Innovative Architect and WWII Vet, is Dead at 94. Matthew Jay Warshauer, AIA, NCARB Architect, of Sarasota, FL, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and dear friend, passed away on 11 April 2022. When he was 16, Matt served with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, conducting WWII reconnaissance missions off the New Jersey coast. Matt served in the US Navy Air Corps during World War II. He earned the WWII Victory Medal, the Good Conduct medal and a commendation. Matt received his Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute, interned in New Haven, Connecticut, and in 1956, began his architectural practice in Westchester County, New York. Matthew J. Warshauer Architects grew to become the major regional architectural firm. His landmark buildings included the Westchester Financial Center, the Seasons Condominium, the Christiania Building and the Tarrytown Corporate Center. Matt received the AIA Lifetime Achievement Award upon his retirement in 2003. Matt was licensed to practice in New York, Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, and Vermont. Matt served his community as Deputy Director of Civil Defense during the 1960's Cuban Missile Crisis and as Chairman of the Mount Kisco Leonard Park Committee. He was a member of the American Legion. In his personal life, Matt was a yachtsman, an avid fisherman, and a pilot. Sherry, his wife of almost 40 years, was his great love and very best friend. They shared love for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There was always one or two Labrador Retrievers in their home. Their charity was raising service dogs and supporting service dog programs. Surviving family are daughters, Pamela Healy and Karen Warshauer; sons, Cliff Spielman, Matthew (Sharon) Spielman, and Gary Warshauer. As an architect, Matt leaves a legacy of iconic buildings along with dozens of architects who trained under him. And as a dad and grandfather, he inspired his children and grandchildren to make things better. Matt's hope was that the family he leaves behind will be inspired by his values: to live in harmony with nature, to always seek the truth, to be honest with themselves and others, and to make decisions using pragmatic logic. It was his hope that they will contribute to making it a better world. Interment and Ceremony will be at Sarasota National Cemetery on May 9, 2022.
