MEREL CAYNE Obituary

CAYNE--Merel. Merel Cayne, age 92, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2023 in Palm Beach, Florida. Merel was born in Chicago on May 28, 1931 to parents Maurice and Jean Cayne and was later joined by brother Jimmy. She led a vibrant and impactful life that included commercial and philanthropic achievements and many meaningful and enduring relationships. She lived most of her adult life in New York City, moving there in 1964. She loved New York intensely, and she embraced its pace and energy from the day she arrived. Merel was a successful entrepreneur, co-founding and co-running a business, BrenMer Industries, at a time when that was extremely rare for women. Merel had a ready laugh and irrepressible spirit. She enjoyed socializing with friends and relatives, whether at parties or while traveling. She was an avid reader who loved music, playing the piano, dancing, movies, theatre, politics, fashion, peonies, humor, looking at the ocean, and adventure. Merel was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and "Aunt Merel". She is survived by her three children David M. Perry (wife Laura), Richard Perry (wife Lisa), and Jennifer Perry; five grandchildren David C. Perry, Samantha David (husband James), Amanda Perry, Cameron Perry, and William Perry; and two great granddaughters Sage David and Miriam David. There will be a celebration of Merel's life in New York on Wednesday, June 21.

Merel, I have a lifetime of memories with you, from the 86th street Salon to sleepovers to Southampton summers to Spain to this past winter in Palm Beach. Your smile always lit up the room and you made everyone who knew and loved you feel special. You were everyone´s favorite "Aunt Merel" and especially mine. I will always think of you when I see anything pink. I miss you already. Xoxox
Love,
Jody

Although I have known Richard and Lisa for 35 years, I didn't meet Merle until we moved into her building in Palm Beach in 2020. What an elegant, gracious, and vivacious woman she was too! Merle will truly be missed by our entire community...

Merel was my Mom´s oldest and dearest friend, maintaining their relationship from grade school till they were both 92. My relationship with Merel began as a child... and whenever she came to Chicago or we went to New York we always got together. So many fond memories... the last of which was drinking margaritas at my daughter´s wedding in Cabo. I will miss her. Rest in peace Merel, may your memory be a blessing to all who were fortunate to know you. Nancy ( Neiburger) Labinger

We adored Merel. We have a room at our summer home that we call "Merel´s room" as she would stay there on 4th of July weekend for many years. She meant so much to my daughter Jane and to all of us. We will miss her tremendously . Love to the family.

Aunt Merel was treasured by me. She made my childhood much sunnier and happier. Aunt Merel made my adulthood much sunnier and happier. Aunt Merel, I´ll always remember your sweet, melodious voice, your smile, your laugh, our fun dinners at the Tower Restaurant, New Year´s Eve on your terrace and your loving kindness. Love, Lawrence
