MIA GLAZER Obituary

GLAZER--Mia, age 94, died on September 12, 2012 after a long, full and eventful life. She was the widow of the late David Glazer, a world-renowned clarinetist, and loving mother of Paul and Peter Brest. She adored, and was adored by, her grandchildren, Hilary Meltzer, Jeremy, Matthew, Phillip and Eric Brest, and her great-grandchildren, Julia and Elijah Meltzer, and Aaron, Adam and Joshua Brest. Mia was born in Vienna at the end of WWI. Immersed in the city's musical and intellectual life, she escaped to America just after the Nazis marched into Austria and spent the first decade in Jacksonville, FL, where she married Alexander Brest, a local businessman. She later moved to New York City and married David, who brought her both love and a house full of music. She became a professional photographer but was always, first and foremost, a gracious Viennese hostess. She was a lifelong liberal, worried about the state of the world and the less fortunate. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The funeral will be held at Riverside Memorial Chapel on Friday, September 14 at 9:45am. Gifts in her memory may be made to: Camp Treetops/North Country School at: www.camptreetops.org. or the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty at: www.metcouncil.org

Hilary - so very sorry to hear about your grandmother, but so happy to read about her full and wonderful life. I wish I could have made the service but my thoughts are certainly with you - what a blessing to have her for so long, and for her to know so many of her descendents!!
