MICHAEL ELLIS Obituary

ELLIS--Michael, was a giant among men. Beloved husband. Inspiring father. Adoring grandfather. Cherished brother and uncle. Born December 20, 1927 in Lvov, Poland. "Mike" survived WWII in heroic fashion, caught several times by the Nazis, he helped his family survive. His remarkable energy, wisdom, luck, and precocious glint of his blue eyes allowed Mike to survive unimaginable circumstances. These traits served him well until the day he passed. In 1947, Mike and his family immigrated to New York where he continued to use his natural gifts and love of life to build an enormously successful career in the diamond industry. Mike and his brother-in-law, Sidney Gluck (of blessed memory) took a small diamond business, T. Gluck and Company, and built it into an international industry leader. Mike was loved by everyone he met. He saw beauty in every human being and showed respect to all. He was a restaurant connoisseur, a major sports fan, and an avid skier. He loved a good party, beautiful music, a game of gin, and his family. He will be sorely missed. His gifts will live on. Funeral is Thursday, April 28, 11am at Temple Beth Shalom in Roslyn Heights, NY.

I am so saddened by the news of Mikes passing. I have known Mike for many, many years and everything you hear about him is true. I was just a young women about 21 years ago when I first met Mike in Boston while I was working for a Jewlery store. He was very kind to me and all of us in the store when he came in every few weeks to see the owners for business. I then moved back to Long Island and to my suprise, realized that he lived only in the next town over from me and that we would take train to the city many times together over the next 10 years. He made my engagement ring in 2002 and my diamond wedding band. He so often helped the many friends of mine with their rings as I always referred him to them. He had a unique style and so much class. When my father died, he was one of the first people to show up at his wake. I am so saddeded to know that just today I found out about his passing. He truly was wonderful, loving and kind man to all. I will miss you terribly Mike but I feel good that I know you are in a happy place smiling down on all of us.

Love you, Francine Rottmund- Pender
